Palm Desert is a healthy, vibrant city that promotes a true spirit of community throughout the year. City sponsored events from summer concerts, movies in the park and SpringFest, to a grand Fourth of July celebration provide residents of all ages with a variety of entertainment. Centrally located Palm Desert Civic Center Park is the venue for most community events.

There is more than golf in Palm Desert. Tennis, bicycling, hiking, rock climbing, swimming and virtually every other outdoor activity known are available throughout the year in Palm Desert and the surrounding area.

Palm Desert's Civic Center Park, with its many amenities, is the envy of surrounding cities. There are volleyball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, ball fields and the hugely popular skate park. There is even a dog park for Palm Desert's four-legged residents.

Other popular Palm Desert parks include Cahuilla Hills Park, Ironwood Park, Magnesia Falls Park, Cook Street Complex and Palm Desert Soccer Park.

EDUCATION
Desert Sands Unified School District services Palm Desert students. The district encompasses the mid-valley and has the following facilities: 16 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 3 high schools, and 1 continuation school.

College of the Desert College of the Desert is a community-owned and supported 2-year school fully accredited for an AA degree. COD has an enrollment of more than 8,000 students and offers associate degrees and certificate programs in over 70 areas of study.

The new California State University, San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus, recently opened. The City of Palm Desert deeded the land and private monies were raised to fund construction for the first of three buildings. The University of California at Riverside is developing an academic presence at the same site through the Heckman International Center for Entrepreneurial Management.

The Coachella Valley is also home to 15 high quality private elementary and high schools as well as a satellite campus of Chapman College.
